Useful Tips About Computer Performance

Useful Tips..

1-Increasing System Performance

If you have 512 megs or more of memory, you can increase system performance
by having the core system kept in memory.

1. Start Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\DisablePagingExecutive
3. Set the value to be 1
4. Reboot the computer

2-Removing the MSN Messenger

If you want to remove the MSN Messenger from always starting in the system tray, do

1. Start / Run
2. Then enter in the following string: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

To remove it completely, see the section Adding / Removing Additional Programs

Remove the hide from the line:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

3-Common Command Console Utilities

WindowsXP comes with quite a few console utilities you can easily run from the command line:

Computer Management - compmgmt.msc
Disk Managment - diskmgmt.msc
Device Manager - devmgmt.msc
Disk Defrag - dfrg.msc
Event Viewer - eventvwr.msc
Shared Folders - fsmgmt.msc
Group Policies - gpedit.msc
Local Users and Groups - lusrmgr.msc
Performance Monitor - perfmon.msc
Resultant Set of Policies - rsop.msc
Local Security Settings - secpol.msc
Services - services.msc
Component Services - comexp.msc

4- Hide/Unhide Logon Names

If you want to hide or unhide the names of users that are displayed on the initial logon screen:

1. Start Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList
3. Add a DWORD with the name of the user account you want to hide
4. Make sure it has a value of 0
5. If there is an existing account, you can unhide it by giving it a value of 1

5- Renaming the Start Button

To rename the start button, you will need a hex editor.
My preference is UltraEdit

1. Copy the \windows\explore.exe file to a new name (e.g. explorer_1.exe)
2. With the hex editor, open that file and go to offset 412b6
3. You will see the word start with blanks between each letter
4. Edit it be any 5 characters or less
5. Save the file
6. Boot to DOS
7. Copy the existing c:\windows\explorer.exe to explorer.org
8. Copy explorer_1.exe to explorer.exe
9. You will also need to replace the explorer.exe in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache file as well with the new one.

Note: If the partition is NTFS and you can't access the files from DOS:

1. Start Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon.
3. Change the value of Shell from Explorer.exe to explorer_1.exe

JPMorgan, UBS may ban BlackBerry

NEW YORK: JPMorgan Chase & Co and UBS are considering allowing employees to access corporate email using Apple iPhones or other alternatives to their standard-issue Research in Motion BlackBerry.

A switch by these banks would be a further blow for Canada's RIM, whose shares have slumped recently after certain countries have threatened to ban the Blackberry whose design does not allow them to monitor phone traffic.

US bank JPMorgan is testing the security of iPhones and smartphones that use Google Inc's Android operating system, a person familiar with the tests said. It is not yet certain that the second-largest US bank by assets would allow employees to switch to other devices, that person added.

A UBS spokesman said the bank is considering allowing employees to use their iPhones for corporate email. JPMorgan declined to comment.

The banks are among major institutions considering a switch from the once-iconic BlackBerry.

The European Union Commission last month rejected the BlackBerry in favor of the iPhone and HTC smartphones amid concerns over BlackBerry security.

Unlike rivals Nokia and Apple, RIM controls its own networks, which handle encrypted messages through server centers in Canada and Britain.

British bank Standard Chartered said earlier this year it was giving its staff the option to replace the Blackberry with the iPhone, a move that could eventually result in thousands of bankers switching.

Asus Eee PC 1015PEM Netbook with Dual Core Processors

Asus announces Eee PC 1015PEM featuring a Dual Core Atom processor N550, this new ultra portable, in fact, combines the advantages of small size and weight of the netbook with improved performance through increased computational power.

The dual core processor, however, is not going to impact on the autonomy that becomes larger up to 23% (or so says Asus) than any other netbook with a single core CPU. They become so 10 hours secured by the house and obtained from the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine.

If the promises were kept, this means a full workday of battery life without recharging and a couple of extra hours to watch a movie on the train there and back from work!

Turning to the technical data we find ourselves with a 250 GB hard drive, the usual 500 GB of online storage free for one year, 1 GB RAM, LED screen 1024 x 600, n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and dustproof keyboard to island . If all this has conquered prepared to spend € 379 on the short (late September) to you this little gem!

Enter Adam, the iPad killer made in India?

Apple’s iPad was, it’s fair to say, awaited with the kind of breathless anticipation usually reserved by nubile nymphets for rakish

rockers. But even as consumers rave about it, the technoscenti are already looking forward to a product that could make the iPad seem outdated, and, what’s more, is completely Made in India.

India is, of course, regarded as a software superpower but hasn’t made waves in IT hardware. That could soon change, thanks to the Adam tablet PC of Hyderabad-based Notion Ink. Adam has generated enormous buzz on tech websites and gadget blogs ever since an early prototype was first demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show, the world’s largest consumer tech show in January.

On Sunday, the final product minus the custom user-interface will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But first, we sneaked a preview at Hyderabad’s BVRIT Innovation Centre, where they are based.

Never heard of Notion Ink? Its founders are six IITians and an MBA graduate. With an average age of 24, they believe India has what it takes to compete with the most innovative tech companies in the world. ‘‘ We knew that Indian engineers and designers were doing most of the innovative work at Microsoft, Intel, and Apple. We just needed to take the first step,” says co-founder Rohan Shravan.

‘‘ Current PC technology is like a Hummer on a city road,’’ quips Rohit Rathi, the youngest of the group at 23, and, along with Shravan, one of four co-founders from IIT Kharagpur. Two are from IIT Delhi while Sachin Ralhan, the eldest at 25, is a childhood friend of Shravan and Rathi and an MBA from IIPM. Apart from Ralhan and Rathi, the other five are all aged 24. What’s so different about their tech? Three years in the making, the Adam tablet is the first device in the world to integrate two breakthrough power saving components — nVidias Tegra 2 chip and a PixelQi screen. Together, they help it achieve twice the battery life and performance of the iPad. The chip provides an edge over the iPad, with its ability to play full high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. ‘‘ It can offer the performance of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone,’’ explains Shravan.

Adams 10-inch screen integrates many innovations first used in the $100 OLPC (one laptop per child) project. Unlike traditional screens, PixelQI
screen has a dual mode, and can be read in bright sunlight like an e-reader . With the backlight off, the company claims that it can increase battery life between charges by a factor of five. What about the pricing? The company has not yet taken a decision on this crucial aspect, but is clear that Adam will definitely be competitive vis-a-vis Apple’s iPad. It expects to start retail sales, first in the USA, from July onwards.

Notion Ink worked with National Institute of Design’s R&D development campus in Bangalore to build a unique touch interface that runs on Google’s Android mobile operating system. As a startup, it faced many obstacles in filing patents and finding the right engineering talent. ‘‘ India doesn’t have people working on Android. And the companies that have, charge Rs 1 lakh per resource per month,’’ says Rohan. ‘‘ So we came up with a social solution — we opted to train engineers ourselves.’’

The company trained and then recruited over 50 engineers at BVRIT in Bachupally, Hyderabad. ‘‘ We got the infrastructure at their Innovation Center, and the students as well. We knew the technology in and out and started training them. Within two months it started paying off, and we started developing the professional applications for the product we wanted to design.’’

‘‘ The company is working on an application store platform of its own, where users can find a wide variety of content. It will offer everything from apps, books, video, audio, to magazines, newspapers and comics,’’ says cofounder Rajat Sahni. ‘‘ We see more and more users reading newspapers on e-readers and tablets in the near future , and has designed a lightweight product that adapts well to this purpose. They showed us a version of how a digital magazine would look on the Adam. We’ve taken design inspiration from a 400-year tradition — the user interface of magazines!’’ chuckles Shravan.

How to Break a BIOS Password ?

How to Break a BIOS Password ?
Methods of breaking password for Desktop PC and for laptop is quite different. We would explain each.

Break BIOS Password for Desktop :
If it's a desktop PC, erasing the cmos memory will usually clear it.

Steps:

1. Power off the computer and make sure that it is unplugged.
2. Open up your computer case. You need physical access to the motherboard to complete this procedure.
3. Find a circular, (mostly) silver metallic object on the motherboard. This is the CMOS battery.
4. CAREFULLY remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 120- 180 seconds. This will flush the CMOS memory which stores the BIOS password and all other configuration. (See Warnings)
5. Set the battery back into place and power on the computer.
6. The computer should then warn you that the CMOS configuration could not be found. You can either reconfigure it yourself or restore defaults. Restoring the default configuration should be fine.
7. You will notice that the BIOS password has been cleared and you can boot without it. You may reset the BIOS password to something else by going into the BIOS configuration and setting a new User Password.

Alternate Methods: (More Difficult)

Remove a jumper: There's a jumper on your motherboard that you'll need to identify and remove. Most motherboards make your job easier by actually labeling the correct jumper as "BIOS config" or something similar. (it looks like a small plastic thingy on 2 pins with 1 pin beside it, within a 1" of the battery). If you're having trouble looking for it, look in the motherboard manual. After you have found it, carefuly pull straight up on it, and place it on the 2-3 pins(it was on the 1-2 pins). With the battery removed and the jumper moved, turn the computer on, and check to see if you can get into the bios. If you are able to, turn the computer off, put the jumper back on pins 1-2, and put the battery back in. Lastly put the case together and you are done.

Note: Don't forget to configure the BIOS (if you know how) after this process. If you you don't know how, just hold the "delete" button when starting your PC and when the blue screen appears, find the load safe defaults settings and press:

• ENTER button
• Y button
• F10 button

Break BIOS Password for Laptop :

Remember that laptops can be trickier, especially if it's a newer model. If it has a security chip on the motherboard forget about it. You either have to physically remove the chip or contact the mfg for the "master" password. If you can boot up off of a cd or floppy try any of these methods:

1. Create a Win98SE bootable media "or anything that lets you boot into MS-DOS" and boot off of it.
2. When the A:\> prompt appears type debug and press enter.
3. You will then only see a "-".
4. Type o 70 2E "include the spaces" and press Enter.
5. Type o 71 ff "include the spaces" and press Enter.
6. Type q and press Enter.
7. Here are a list of common mfg backdoor passwords
• AWARD BIOS
AWARD SW, AWARD_SW, Award SW, AWARD PW, _award, awkward, J64, j256, j262, j332, j322, 01322222, 589589, 589721, 595595, 598598, HLT, SER, SKY_FOX, aLLy, aLLY, Condo, CONCAT, TTPTHA, aPAf, HLT, KDD, ZBAAACA, ZAAADA, ZJAAADC,
• AMI BIOS
AMI, A.M.I., AMI SW, AMI_SW, BIOS, PASSWORD, HEWITT RAND, Oder

Softwares to Break BIOS Password:

If your system boots but the BIOS password is still in place, there are several programs you can load that are designed to crack the passwords or clear them altogether. The encryption on BIOS passwords is not very complex.
